Per the agreement, Howard County General Hospital will receive the first installment of $3.5 million now with a follow-up payment of $500,000 in April. “Since Howard County General Hospital first opened its doors 30 years ago, they have been providing the very best in quality health care to our community,” said Ulman. “As our population has grown, so has the demand for patient care, and that is not likely to change as the first wave of baby boomers turn 60. This new pavilion and parking garage will help the hospital meet those increasing health care needs.” HCGH hopes to raise a total of $30 million in private donations to complete the project, which is expected to cost $105 million. The pavilion is scheduled for completion in late 2009. The entire project will be complete in 2011.

The $3 million gift to Great Expectations, the Campaign for Maryland, will establish the Colvin Institute of Real Estate Development in Maryland’s School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. The Institute will be the academic home for the school’s two-year-old Master’s in Real Estate Development (MRED), giving the program a solid financial foundation, creating a new track with even greater focus on sustainable development, expanding its leadership training, as well as extending the program’s public outreach and international presence. “The Colvin Institute opens a new chapter for us,” said Margaret McFarland, who directs Maryland’s MRED program. “It gives us a solid platform for growth and resources to enrich the curriculum. There’s a growing recognition that development needs to get smarter and greener, and our program will now reflect this with more intense focus.” Increasing support for innovative programs is a key goal of Maryland’s campaign to raise $1 billion by 2011. Maryland’s MRED program is one of just a handful nationwide to focus on the full range of issues facing developers.
“This early stage trial exceeded our expectations for both safety and efficacy,” said Randal Mills, Osiris president and CEO. “These data support our pre-clinical results and suggest that in acute myocardial infarction, early treatment with Prochymal can alter the course of disease. Based on this encouraging data, we look forward to promptly advancing Prochymal in this exciting, multi-billion-dollar market.”
The two companies had been working on the pilot project since early in 2005. “Despite a promising level of interest, we did not secure sufficient client commitments to make Project Apollo a sustainable venture for our two companies,” Arbitron and Nielsen said in a joint statement.
